Partnering with Professional Arts Organizations
Students of The River Performing and Visual Arts Center have been given the opportunity to explore the arts through a variety of one-day arts workshops conducted by renowned arts organizations.
Theatre Under The Stars– One-Day Musical Theatre Workshops are held at the Hobby Center each semester. Students rehearse and perform a rendition of a current TUTS production: 2009 performances included Happy Days, The Musical and The Sound of Music. Rozie Curtis, TUTS’ Manager of Community Outreach leads the workshop and students from the Humphrey’s School of Musical Theatre volunteer with River students.
Writers in the Schools – in August 2009 students participated in a creative writing workshop led by professional writer Marcia Chamberlain. Students created poems and presented their spoken word creations for their families at the conclusion of the workshop.
Houston Pottery Guild– in December 2009 students created and embellished holiday ornaments and small figurines made of sculpey with Houston ceramicist Cynthia Babbitt.

"Dancing For Our Stars"!
Dance for Our Stars!
Featuring The River Performance Troupe, a collaboration with Theatre Under The Stars.
With a special tribute to TUTS,
for their dedication to
children with special needs.
The Troupe performed at the grand opening of the City of Houston Parks and Recreation Department's Playground Without Limits in Eastwood Park on Saturday, February 20th. The playground was designed to allow children of all abilities to play together, joining parks of similar design such as Hermann, Memorial, Alief, Tidwell, and hopefully many more to come.
The Troupe sang and danced wonderful renditions of Hand Jive, Happy Days, and The Twist. The show was so well received that there was an encore performance!
This Arts Project is funded in part by a grant from the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
