We need volunteers to help our special students during our classes in music, art, drama and dance! Enthusiastic and caring volunteers make our program successful and help make a difference in our children’s lives. This is a great opportunity for you to gain valuable hands on experience with children who have special needs! Our volunteers help to encourage each child to achieve his/her creative potential in the classroom. Whether you need community service hours or just enjoy being around great kids, we want YOU!

Saturday Morning Programs!
Saturday morning classes are offered for 10 weekends during the school year. Hours are Saturday Mornings from 9:00 am- 12:45 pm. There is a minimum requirement of three weekends per semester.
Positions are filled on a first come first serve basis.
Fine Arts Summer Camp!
The River offers six one-week summer camp sessions. Hours are Monday-Friday from 9am-3pm. Extra service hours can be acquired by arriving at 8:30am for early drop off.
Each week of camp is based on a theme and concludes with a recital during which each student is able to shine on stage.
Positions are filled on a first come first serve basis.

Special Programs!
Special programs or project come up occasionally through out the year. These can include administrative work, special events or short term programs.

Spring 2012 Saturday Program:
The Saturday Morning Program offers weekly one-hour classes from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. during the school year at the City of Houston Multi-Service Center. Enrollment is by age and is limited to ensure that each student receives the attention necessary to participate to their fullest potential. A variety of classes in music, acting, art and dance are offered. Each class has a teaching artist, a teacher’s aid, and volunteers as needed to assist students. At the end of each semester, all students perform in a recital on the stage in the gymnasium. The students are filled with joy, excitement and confidence and shine on stage!
We are looking for great volunteers to assist participants in having a meaningful experience during the Saturday Morning Program.

Social Scene Program:
Social Motion Skills and The River have combined talents to offer acting classes to children with mild autism. The will ensure maximum exposure to the art of theatre as a learning medium for expression, vocal tone, music and movement. Social Motion has crafted the skits to ensure social scenario learning is part of the fun experience.

No special skills are required in order to volunteer. We are looking for compassionate individuals. If you have experience helping children with special needs or have talent in fine arts please let us know. All volunteers must be at least 15 years of age.
Volunteers must be 15 years old. 12- 14 year old volunteers must be accompanied by a parent or guardian over the age of 18.
